Photos and Upcoming Shows

We had a great time performing our Jazz, Blues & Classics Show to a full house at our 'home club' Foundry 616 last Friday. A few photos of the night to share below . . .

Over winter I'll be heading into the studio to record two new original tunes as singles -- stay tuned for some new music. Our next public show in Sydney will be at The Basement on Saturday Sept 23rd. In between that I'll also be performing in Hobart, Tasmania for the Festival of Voices on July 11th and at the JSPAC in Penrith for a 'live to air' concert hosted by Fine Music 102.5FM.

Feb Show at Foundry 616

It was lovely to be back at our home club Foundry 616 on the 24th February performing our first Jazz, Blues & Classics show for 2017. There are lots of exciting things in store for this year, to name a few our next live shows coming up on Friday 12th May at Foundry 616 and Saturday 23rd September at The Basement. I'm also songwriting and working on new tunes for a recording, and will be travelling to Tasmania to perform at the Festival of Voices in July.

I hope this new year has brought great adventures for you so far, and we look forward to sharing more music with you over the coming months. Please stay in touch via my mailing list here, or follow me on Facebook here.

Chat with Music Love

Thank you to Music Love who are a great organisation that supports and champions Australian women in music, founded by talented artist and writer Julie Kerr. It was a pleasure to share some of my stories with her -- read the interview here.

We hope to see you at Foundry next week on Friday 24th for our first public show of 2017! More details and tickets available on the website.

Frances xx

PS. A quick excerpt from the interview with Music Love:

ML: How do audiences respond to your original music?

FM: After a show, people generally respond to the whole performance because we consciously try to take the audience on a bit of a journey. But when people say they have a favourite tune, it is often one of my originals. Some people do get very moved by particular songs or tunes...like someone recently told me the song 'I Will Remember You' had helped them cope after their partner passed away from cancer. I mean, wow! That really had an impact on me.

Thank you for a great year!

Dear friends,

It's been a wonderful year for me with lots to be grateful for including playing with fabulous artists like Dionne Warwick and Gregory Porter on their visits to Australia, playing at the JZ club in Shanghai and also being honoured by Fine Music 102.5 FM here in Sydney. Not to mention some wonderful shows with the band at The Basement in Sydney and the Paris Cat Jazz Club in Melbourne.

Thank you to everyone for your love and support in 2016. I wish you a peaceful Christmas and a 2017 full of joy and blessings. Here is an original Christmas tune from our recent live album. It's called Boogie Woogie Santa. I hope you enjoy it!

Love to all,
Frances

Kruger Scholarship Recipient 2017

I'm deeply grateful to Fine Music 102.5FM for selecting me as their 2017 Kruger Scholar. The prospect is both humbling and exciting at the same time. I will be using the funds and the in-kind support provided by Fine Music to help produce and launch my second studio album. If all goes to plan, the band and I will be in the studio to do that early next year. We’ve been road-testing some new original tunes and some more of our unique takes on timeless classics at our live shows -- and I have a few more tunes yet to try. I’m really looking forward to getting started on the project. I'm also looking forward to collaborating with Fine Music on a range of other initiatives. They are a wonderfully professional organisation yet working with them is also like being part of a big happy family!  If you'd like to listen, here is an interview below that I did  with Simon Moore on Fine Music shortly after the public announcement.

Ps. Hope to see you tomorrow night at The Basement!

Performance at JZ Club in Shanghai

I had a wonderful experience travelling to China for the first time and performing at the JZ Club in Shanghai. JZ Club is rated as one of the top 10 jazz clubs in the world, and the venue was just amazing having been recently renovated and designed to have the look, feel and (smokey) atmosphere of a genuine jazz club. For my show I performed with some local and international musicians -- all very talented. Here are some photos below of my time there and in Shanghai. Hope you enjoy!

PS. Don't forget dear Sydney-siders, on November 12th I hope you'll join us for our Jazz, Blues and Classics Show! At The Basement, Circular Quay. Dinner tix almost sold out. More details here

Thank you Devonport

I've just spent a wonderful week in chilly Tasmania having a great adventure. For the first few nights I stayed with some family friends in a lovely suburb called Flowerpot where the locals grow their own produce, make their own cheeses and create their own delicious honey.

I met with the band on Wednesday for rehearsal -- such a talented bunch they didn't take long to get all the parts! It was also great to chat on ABC Hobart about the upcoming shows. (See also some local press here).

We then road-tripped through the beautiful Tasmanian countryside to get to the Devonport Jazz Festival. And what a couple of wonderful shows! Saturday night we performed at the Devonport Entertainment Centre, and Sunday the beautiful waterfront venue The Wharf in Ulverstone to close the festival. The audience and community were so welcoming and appreciative, and the festival had an overall exciting and warm feeling.

Thanks to the wonderful musicians in the band: Audrey and Rosalia Lonergan (backing vocals), Nick Parish (guitar), Hamish Houston (bass), Matt Ives (drums) and Al Dobson (sax).

Some photos included below. I had a wonderful time, and hope to be back in Devonport again soon!

Mother's Day Live Video

Most countries around the world will celebrate Mother's Day this Sunday. When she comes along to my shows, there is one song my mum always (!!) requests as an encore . . . Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Please feel free to send this little something on to the mothers in your life. Recorded live at The Basement in Sydney earlier this year, it also has a lovely intro by Jason Bruer on saxophone.

If you like it, please 'like it'. But if you love it, please 'share it', especially with mums.

Ps. For our Sydney friends, we'd love to see you at our next show coming up at Foundry 616 on Saturday June 4th. More information and bookings available here

You can purchase the song on iTunes here, and also on GooglePlay here
